Sailing the Drascombe Longboat in the Turks and Caicos Islands
Sailing the Drascombe Longboat downwind
The Drascombe Longboat

The 22ft Drascombe sailing dinghy is an extremely versatile boat and well suited for exploring the waters of the TCI. She has two masts and carries 172sqft of sail area. She can also be powered by oars or a small four-stroke outboard engine. The longboat is a classic British design that originated in the 1960’s and has been sailing the worlds oceans and waterways ever since. You will appreciate her manoeuvrability in small coves along with her seaworthiness in more open water. With a retractable centreboard and a maximum draft of only 3 feet she can access many of the shallow channels and cays around the Turks and Caicos Islands. The Drascombe Longboats have been used rigorously by the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in Baja California for the past 20 years. They are particularly suitable vessels for commercial expeditions and for learning the fundamentals of sailing.
