HOME: Introducing TCI

The Turks and Caicos Islands is one of fourteen remaining British Overseas Territories. It is located at the southern end of the Bahamas, approximately 575 miles south-east from Miami and 100 miles north of Hispaniola. It is comprised of 7 islands and over 40 cays (small sandy islands). The capital is Cockburn Town and located on Grand Turk. Today the majority of the population lives on Providenciales, known as Provo, and this is also where the tourism is centered. The main Caicos Islands are named for their relative geographic distribution and locally referred to simply by this location. For example South Caicos is known as ‘South’, Middle Caicos as ‘Middle’ etc…

The official language is English although Creole (Haiti), Spanish (Dominican Republic & Cuba) and French plus other Caribbean accents including Jamaican & Guianese are also common. Although the Islands of the Bahamas are sometimes referred to as ‘the isles of perpetual June’ you will notice a difference in the weather patterns and water temperature between the winter and summer. The islands are relatively dry and except between August and October, humidity is low.
