The Crossing Place Trail
· The trail followings the originally trading route that ran along the north coast of Middle Caicos to the point where people used to cross the sand bars at low tide to North Caicos.
· Today we can pick up it up at numerous points between Pine Barrel Landing and the village of Conch Bar.
· It is a delightful walk that passes along rocky headlands and secluded beaches.
· The reefs run close the shore here and the wind and crashing waves can make for a dramatic walk in heavy weather. Watch out for the ‘blowing hole’ near the western end when swells are up.
· The views along the coast are rather unique and offer the opportunity to see a variety of birdlife and well adapted flora.
· A typical day with Amphibious Adventures begins with an early journey from Provo and a scrumptious breakfast at Danny’s Café. Try his famous ‘conch and grits’ for a truly local energy boost.
· From here it’s up to you how fast and far you hike. The full loop is approximately 5 miles and takes 5-6hrs. Enjoy a picnic lunch along the way and finish with a swim at a sensational beach at known as Mudjin Harbour.
· A shorter walk can be enjoyed with time to see other parts of the island or a boat can be arranged at the far end to bring us back and explore cays and channels near Juniper Hole.
· Closed shoes are highly recommended due to sharp nature of some of the rocks.
